1) Train for fuck?
Alot of people train without having a goal in mind. We always do a pre assessment on our trainees & ask them, what do you want to achieve? “I wanna get big & strong” Then why are you running 5-7km every other alternate day? “Oh I have an upcoming virtual race to take part”.

You can’t do both at the same time. If you see someone excelling in both fields, you’re also looking at years of structured programming, diet, discipline & consistency. It is not something you can do in a few months. You wanna run fast, you need to be lean, you wanna put on muscle mass, you won’t be running as fast as before with that mass.

2) Run for fuck?
We have an awesome running culture in Singapore. During the circuit breaker period, there were many people who got into running. But if you’re running almost everyday, your joints are gonna haunt you when you are older especially with poor running form. Learn to run properly. Focus on midfoot or forefoot strikes, knees up, torso straight, slight lean forward, pull your heels up & time your cadence.

Also, you can’t get better at your 2.4 just by running 2.4 everyday. Sure you’ll see improvements over time but there are smarter ways to train for better results with less stress on your body. Intervals, Fartlek, LSD or cross train. If you have to run, run with a purpose. Focus on your Form, your speed or your endurance.

3) Think so much for fuck?
Many trainees often tell us about their “body type”. Too bottom heavy, short legs cannot run, long arms disadvantaged at pull ups. They’ve already lost the war with self imposed limitations on themselves.

Some don’t do the “homework” we give them. The reasons? “My favourite socks not dry yet” or “ I thought it will rain so I never run” Don’t you just wanna slap these people? Yes, some of these are the very same people who tell us they wanna train for IPPT 100 pointer or train for some competition. There is no “perfect time” to train. Nothing slows you down more like a negative mindset.
